Previsico hires former RMS lead modeller Dimosthenis Tsaknias

Inundacion

London, 16 June 2021, InsurTech Previsico today announced that Dimosthenis Tsaknias, previously Lead Modeller for RMS and Weather Modelling Manager for Lloyds Banking Group, has been hired as Senior Flood Modeller to lead its flood modelling team, to support global expansion.

Previsico specialises in modelling surface water flooding in real-time by utilising the latest geospatial technology for weather predictions, in partnership with IBM, to deliver property-level flood nowcast and forecast warnings.

With a wealth of experience, Dimosthenis Tsaknias will be a major asset in Previsico’s mission to be the leading global provider of cutting-edge flood warning prediction, including for surface water flooding, which potentially affects 3 million people in the UK (compared with 2.4 million for river and coastal flooding). Before joining Previsico, Dimosthenis was Senior Project Manager at the National Observatory of Athens and previously at Lloyds Banking Group as Manager of its Weather Modelling team for leading home insurer LBG.

In this role, he was responsible for the evaluation and development of flood models as well as event response when flooding occurred. Dimosthenis also supervised and developed risk pricing models for the UK at address level and led the transition to a new flood model for capital and reinsurance purposes. Before this, Dimosthenis was Lead Modeller at RMS, where he contributed to the development of hazard and financial loss flood risk models covering 12 countries in Europe, Japan, India, and Brazil. Commenting on the appointment, Previsico’s CEO Jonathan Jackson said: “Dimosthenis’ global experience will be invaluable in supporting our clients’ growing need to reduce the risk of flooding and mitigate losses. We are delighted to have him on board as we continue to grow the business in the UK and worldwide.”

“Previsico is quickly establishing itself as a leading provider of flood forecasting solutions across multiple industries, notably with its recent win of the ‘Cross-sector innovation of the year’ award at the British Data Awards 2021,” said Dimos. “Within the insurance industry, these technologies will play a pivotal role in enabling insurers to manage and mitigate flood risks – an ever-growing concern in the face of global issues such as climate change. I look forward to being an integral part of this transformation.”

Previsico offers the insurance market the ability to alert customers of immediate risks to their properties, so they can protect their assets by putting up flood defences. Insurers can benefit from adjusting pricing (or implementing moratoriums) before storms hit; having an accessibility map so that claims teams can know how to reach properties; understanding where flooding has occurred to provide early indication of total loss amounts, reduce fraud, and improve claims efficiency.
